Modern fencing is a combat sport in which two duly protected opponents face each other and try to touch each other with a sport weapon. It is a sport of entertainment and competition but follows the rules and techniques initially developed for efficient swordplay in duels. Also called “physical chess”, fencing trains not only physical abilities but also tactical thinking and self-discipline.
In addition, children learn “chivalrous behavior”, such as respect for the opponent and good handling of weapons and equipment. In this activity, students will learn the essential elements, techniques, and tactics of the sport of fencing (guard, movements: steps, background; hand positions, attacks, parrying attacks); sporting behavior (greeting the opponent, responsible handling of weapons).
