Home » My experience with Microsoft Teams
The document’s goal is to establish a relationship between the use of learning platforms such as OneNote and Microsoft Teams and the learning skills of the 21st century (21CLD (Century Learning Design). Through examples, we can see how to combine the use of information and communications technology (ICT) with the development of class collaboration, knowledge construction, self-regulation, and problem solving in the real world, among others.
The document addresses first what is relevant in the creation and configuration of the Microsoft Teams’ group. Then it presents the different tools that the learning platform offers, showing how to create and use channels and how to assign homework. Additionally, it shows the advantages that Microsoft Teams and OneNote have for synchronic learning (Face to Face), and for asynchronous learning, based in the model of inverted classroom (Flipped Classroom). Three main tools of Microsoft Teams are presented: the online video call, the online virtual meetings, and the function of sharing screen with audio and video.
Finally, it shows some examples of applications that are compatible with Microsoft Teams and that help developing different abilities and acquiring and creating individual and collective knowledge, such as Edpuzzle, Flipgrid, Forms, Quizlet, Mindomo and Kahoot, among many others, that besides helping the traditional models, can also be used in hybrid environments.
On the other hand, you can also see which is the “Artifact”, which means, the students’ learning outcome with the project “My experiences with Microsoft Teams”. In other words, it explains how the project demonstrated that the desired learning objectives were achieved and how the Microsoft tools were an essential part of learning. The answers to those questions are exemplified through the work with the students of 10th grade, who needed to learn a great amount of new vocabulary to reach level B2 or C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). For this purpose, several learning units were designed on the Quizlet application, so students could learn and practice the required vocabulary in three specific topics (food and health, migration and integration in Germany and school and professional education in Germany) for presenting the standardized test in German DSDII (Deutsches Sprachdiplom II). The students could work with the Quizlet application without leaving the Microsoft Teams environment and the teacher could see their progress through a specific function of the application that lets them see the achievements in detail.
Likewise, the project “my experiences with Microsoft Teams” gives examples of how the use of ICT has supported not only the author’s learning, but the learning and growth of his colleagues. It also describes the activities that were completed and directed and presents evidence of how these improved their teaching and/or learning.
The constant training that Colegio Andino has provided since 2014 is mentioned, as an example of own and school learning. This is because since this year, the German school Deutsche Schule Bogota started training its teachers in the use of Information and communication technologies in the classroom. Since then, portable computers have been used to support the process of teaching- learning in 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade of school.
Beyond that, Colegio Andino – Deutsche Schule Bogota is in the process of being a showcase school for Microsoft – Microsoft Showcase School. For the time being, it has been categorized as a Microsoft incubator school; that is why the teachers have delved into topics that interest them through the courses that Microsoft Educator Center offers, that promote the construction of solid connections between students and teachers in a remote learning environment and the development and consolidation of the 21st century skills by the appropriate use of the ICT.
