This project was part of a UNIT called Think globally, act locally from the book Transition. There was an introduction and an outline of the topic:
The students had to:
Then the students had to:
The results were: climate change, food shortage, drinking water, child labor, poverty, health problems, starvation, and overpopulation. Other problems were addressed (global village, world problems, ecological footprint, global warming, circular economy, a product’s life cycle and electronic waste), the same as readings (the carbon diaries) and documentaries (Kelvin Doe), which were analyzed in class.
Later, the teacher gave guidelines for the project. Students had to use the seven keys of success: credibility, simplicity, sound, feeling, precision, and alternatives for unexpected events.
When they started to prepare their project, students had to read about three different scenarios of advertisement campaigns directed towards young people: a global food company, a global clothes company, and a Non-governmental Organization (NGO).
After, they had to form five groups of five people to organize the project: the work plan, the available time (three blocks of ninety minutes from English class), the presentation should last between 6 and 10 minutes.
Then they should choose a company (Burger King, Taco Bell, Zara…) and get informed to change their strategy.
Finally, they had to prepare, rehearse, and present.
One of the last groups chose BURGER KING, changed the strategy and the menu, created a new logo and slogan, and recorded a video to promote its new menu.
