Construction of the Andinitos building

Classrooms: The classrooms are furnished with wooden furniture from Germany without chemicals and acoustic soundproofing in the ceilings and wooden acoustic grilles inside. To ensure an excellent academic environment, the classrooms get cross ventilation and thermo-acoustic windows. Similarly, the floors are environmentally friendly German rubber.
Covered play area: The play area has environmentally friendly German rubber flooring.
Multi-purpose room, also used as a cafeteria: The multiple lounges are constructed with acoustic materials on the ceiling and inside.
January - June 2018

April: Reduction of paper consumption in the Administration.
Reduction from 74 to 39 printers in the administrative and academic areas (52.7%). We save 147,832 sheets per year, which means we saved 17.7 trees and avoided a CO2 emission of 1877.3 kg. We saved 676 hours of electricity, which is equivalent to 77.1 light bulbs per year.

March: Waste separation in classrooms and school buildings.
Thirty students start a recycling campaign to strengthen the environmental awareness of the school community.

February: Students’ initiative: Collection of tetra paks, batteries, and plastic caps.
Thirty students start a recycling campaign to support the Tapas para Sanar and Proyecto Fundación Pensilvania foundations.

January: Reduction of paper consumption through BiblioBanco – the sustainable library.
Textbooks are rented from the library rather than purchased new to ensure sustainable use. Textbook sets are purchased for 48 grades 5-12.
July 2018 - June 2019

March-May: 4th-grade student initiative: Reducing plastic consumption.
Twenty-four 4th graders take the initiative for the abolition of plastic cups at the Primary drinking water stations. Each child now brings their own water bottle.
The 4th graders give lectures in 5th grade. The 146 teachers also join the initiative and remove plastic cups from the teachers’ lounges.
January: The sustainable library
High school library employees set up a central recycling point on their premises. They collect old plastic bottles and envelopes to recycle into house building blocks and encourage students to participate.

November: Collection campaign: Batteries and plastic lids.
Twenty-five students initiate an environmental awareness campaign among their classmates and the whole school community in cooperation with some foundations.

September – October: Solar cell phone charging stations.
We built solar panels on five kiosks and installed cell phone charging stations there. This initiative helps us save energy.

From September: Reduction of paper consumption in the classroom.
From 9th grade onwards, approximately 500 students use digital notebooks and textbooks.
July 2019 - April 2020

October – December: “Recycle, Reduce, Re-use.”
Thirty students start a campaign to collect electrical waste, use notebooks and school supplies. A total of 194.8 kilograms are collected, which are re-used for recycling.
Renovation and modernization of Waste Treatment Plant equipment.

July – August: Noise protection measures, thermal insulation, ventilation of classrooms, installation of energy-saving lighting systems.
Construction measures for approximately 590 students: soundproofing of ceilings and walls, installation of LED lamps, and new doors in 44 classrooms and corridors in blocks E and C.

Noise protection and thermal insulation measures:
Installation of 2738 m² of floor covering in the central hall and Primary classrooms.
